Box Score 2 The Bard College women's tennis team got revenge against Western Connecticut as the Raptors defeated the Wolves, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon to close out their regular season.
Bard fell to Western Connecticut earlier in the season, 8-1, but turned it around today and defeated the Wolves. The Raptors had a 2-0 lead from the start since the Wolves only had five players and had to forfeit doubles 3 and singles 6. It is Theo Laport's first win as Interim Head Coach of the women's team.
The no.1 doubles duo of Hanna Okalava and Maya Kelly comfortably defeated their opponents, 8-1. The duo of Paige Houghton and Dana Mulco fought hard in the no. 2 spot against their opponents, but ultimately fell 8-7.
In singles, Okalava and Kelly breezed past their opponents with Okalava winning 6-1, 6-0 and Kelly winning 6-1, 6-1. At no. 3, Houghton won the first set comfortably, 6-2, but in the second set, Houghton had to break her opponent's service game to win 6-4. Mulco won three games at no.4 singles. Lola Mainieri battled hard against her opponent at no. 5 singles, going to three-sets. Mainieri won the second set, 6-4, after falling in the first set, 6-2. In the championship tiebreak, Mainieri got close but ultimately dropped the match 10-7.
