STUDENT-ATHLETE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SAAC)
What is SAAC?
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience.
Every NCAA school has its own SAAC.
Each SAAC is comprised of at least two student-athletes from each varsity team (Bard also includes our club teams).
The History of SAAC
An Association-wide SAAC was adopted at the 1989 NCAA Convention and was formed primarily to review and offer student-athlete input on NCAA activities and proposed legislation that affected student-athlete welfare.
The initial national committee was comprised of student-athletes from all membership divisions to ensure that the student-athlete voice accounted for a diversity of educational and athletics experiences at all types of NCAA member institutions.
The Purpose of SAAC
The Bard College SAAC seeks to improve student-athletes' welfare and build a greater sense of community on campus by providing a platform for the student-athlete voice, fostering collaborative initiatives within the college, and encouraging civic engagement in the greater Bard community.
SAAC creates an inclusive space where student-athletes can thrive on and off the field.
SAAC taps into the leadership potential of Bard College student-athletes to align the mission and concerns of the athletic department with the greater Bard community.
The Role of SAAC Members
Members of SAAC are student-athletes that show great leadership skills and dedication to all athletes and sport teams at Bard. Members are committed to creating a better athletic department at Bard as well as creating a more inclusive experience for all students on campus.
Members are expected to attend meetings every third Sunday as well as participate in projects and events that SAAC will work on.
