ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team defeated Union College, 99-95, in double overtime in a Liberty League game on Friday night.
It was the first conference win for new Bard coach
Michael Lenahan.
"Union is a really good team and they made us work for that one every step of the way," Lenahan said. "I'm so proud of the way this group stuck together through every adversity we faced to earn the win."
Bard led by six at half, and by 12 with 11:15 left in the game, but Union came roaring back and forced overtime. In the second overtime, the big basket came on a layup by
Elliot Harris off a pass from
Tyler Bruns to give Bard a 97-95 lead with 27 seconds left. Two free throws by
Azriel Almodovar with 1.5 seconds left clinched it.
Harris finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists. Bruns, who scored a career-high 20 in Bard's game at SUNY Delhi on Tuesday, has a new career high because he scored 21 against Union.
Greg Farrow and
Stam Koulouris had 11 points apiece, and
Kevin Le had 10.
"We are really coming together as a group and it's fun to see," Lenahan said. "That was a total team win. And we really appreciate the crowd tonight as they created quite and atmosphere in the Stevenson Athletic Center."
Bard hosts Vassar on Saturday afternoon at 4.
