Box Score NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team lost to New Paltz, 73-63, on the second day of the Hudson Valley Classic on Saturday.
Bard was up, 39-36, at halftime but the Hawks came back, took the lead early in the second half, and held Bard off the rest of the way.
"We really emphasized defense this week in practice and it showed in the games this weekend," Bard coach
Michael Lenahan said. "If we play defense like we did tonight, that's going to give us a chance to win a lot of games this year. What impressed me the most tonight was the energy our bench brought throughout the game."
Azriel Almodovar and
Tyler Bruns led Bard with 11 points apiece;
Stam Koulouris had 10 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks, and
Heston Tucker contributed a career-high 10 points.
Up next is Bard's home opener, against SUNY Delhi on Tuesday night.
"This is our first chance to respond to a loss this season," Lenahan said, "and we are going to use this to get better and get ready to play SUNY Delhi on Tuesday."
