Box Score WELLESLEY, Mass. - A goal off a breakaway by junior Juliette Fry (Atlanta, GA) in the 55th minute broke a scoreless tie, and the Wellesley College women's soccer team went on to defeat Bard College, 2-0, in a non-league game on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was characterized by defense on both sides, with Wellesley managing three shots and Bard just two. But the first 10 minutes of the second half was dominated by the Blue, who produced three shots on goal and two corner kicks during that span before finally breaking through.
Freshman Melise Knowles (Diablo, CA) led Fry toward the penalty area with a long pass, and she was all alone. Bard keeper
Kelsey O'Brien came off her line to try to beat Fry to the ball, but she simply chipped a low shot past O'Brien to the left post for a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.
The Raptors (1-2-1) were caught pressing forward late, and sophomore Kyla Petrie (Dalton, TX) capitalized, making it 2-0 in the 87th minute. In the end, Wellesley (3-1-0) outshot Bard 14-5, including 11-3 in the second half.
The Raptors next play at New Paltz on Friday afternoon at 4. It's the last of five straight road games to start the season. You can follow that match via Live Stats or Live Video right here.
