Bard battles, falls to New Paltz, 1-0

Freshman Isabel Keddy-Hector produced four of Bard's 12 shots on Saturday, but the Raptors lost to New Paltz, 1-0.
Box Score NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - Bard women's soccer coach Bill Kelly built a non-league schedule that he felt would prepare his team for the rigors of the Liberty League.

So for the second time in a week, the Raptors took on a team just outside of the Top 25 nationally.

Both results were 1-0 losses. Last week it was SUNY Cortland. On Saturday, it was SUNY New Paltz, although this game was closer than that one.

Box score

The first half was played relatively evenly, with the Hawks (6-1) outshooting Bard 9-6 and collecting four corners to Bard's two. The Raptors had their chances but couldn't break through.

In the second half, New Paltz freshman Chelsea Weir (West Islip, NY) scored an unassisted goal from the top of the penalty area after a goal kick in the 66th minute, and it was enough. In the end, New Paltz outshot Bard 17-12 and produced eight corners to Bard's three.

New Paltz freshman Krysten Kane (Macedon, NY) made five saves.

For Bard (3-3), freshman Ryan O'Connell made seven saves. The Raptors next host Hartwick College on Wednesday night at 7.
