The Bard College women's soccer team dominated the first 30 minutes of Sunday's Liberty League game against Skidmore. They outshot the Thoroughbreds, 5-1, during that stretch, and produced four corner kicks to none for the visitors.

But they didn't score.

Skidmore had one good chance to score before halftime, however, and cashed in en route to a 2-0 win over Bard at the Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex.

Bard pressured Skidmore early and often, and nearly scored more than once in the first half. The Raptors' best opportunity came in the 24th minute, when a corner kick by Maddy Huggins was struck with a full volley by Gina Lewis near the top of the box. The arcing shot looked like it was going in, when Skidmore keeper Gab Lawrence leapt, and at the very apex of her jump, got one finger on the ball. It landed on top of the crossbar, then rolled into the top of the net.

Later, Skidmore got one chance and pounced on it. Rebecca Russo (Belmont, MA) crossed a pass into the penalty area on the ground, but it wasn't cleared. In the ensuing chaos, Sarah LaBella (Malta, NY) scored in the 42nd minute from about 15 yards out, and the Thoroughbreds took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Possession was more even and chances were few for either team in the second half, but with Bard pressing forward for a potential tying goal, Morgan Governale (Setauket, NY) scored after another failed clear from short range in the 78th minute to provide the final tally.

Lawrence finished with five saves for Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds are 3-7-1 overall, 2-2-1 in the Liberty League.

Lena James made four saves for Bard, 4-9-1 overall, 0-4-1 in the Liberty League. The Raptors next play on Friday at RIT at 4.
