Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Entering the day in a three-way tie atop the Liberty League standings, the last thing the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute women's soccer team needed was difficulty in its regular season finale with Bard.
Bard was stubborn, but a late goal by senior Shannon Maguire lifted RPI to a 1-0 win as they enter the Liberty League playoffs next week.

Maguire's goal in the 87th minute had Bard coach
Bill Kelly mildly steamed. A through ball played to RPI's Nikki Goodsell (Danbury, CT) resulted in Bard keeper
Lena James being whistled for handling the ball outside of the penalty area. Bard set up its wall for Maguire's direct kick, which was a mere two yards outside of the center of the box.
After the whistle was blown, two RPI players on the edge of the wall started crawling on the ground along the feet of the Bard players in the wall. A second later Maguire blasted her shot, and it deflected off a surprised Bard defender, past James and into the goal.
Overall, RPI carried play most of the day, and aside from Kate Edwards (Williamsville, NY) hitting the crossbar just before halftime, scoring chances weren't too threatening or frequent. In the end, RPI outshot Bard, 15-3, and had four corners to Bard's one.
The Engineers are 10-5 overall and 6-1 in the Liberty League.
Bard (4-12-1, 0-7-1) is done with Liberty League play for 2012. The Raptors have one game remaining, a non-league contest with Utica on Saturday at 4 p.m. It will be Senior Day for
Perry Scheetz,
Abby de Uriarte and
Lena James.
