ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Sophomore
Maddy Huggins, the leading scorer for Bard College last season, has been spending a lot of time at midfield this season.
Tuesday night, she started the game at forward, and it took her all of two minutes, 42 seconds to find the back of the net.
Huggins created a turnover near the corner, dribbled up the goal line and ripped a heavy shot from a tough angle into the goal to spur Bard to a 4-0 victory over SUNY Purchase.
Freshmen
Megan Snyder and
Alana Shaw added goals soon after Huggins' blast, and it was 3-0 before 10 minutes was gone. Huggins had the assist on Snyder's tally with a corner kick.
Later, in the 31st minute, Snyder scored again, this time unassisted, and the game was effectively over. The Raptors, 3-4, outshot SUNY Purchase 24-4 and dominated possession throughout.
Amy Strawbridge and
Lena James shared the goaltending duties for Bard, which next plays Saturday at 1 at Hartwick College.
