TROY, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team managed one shot on goal during Saturday night's game at RPI.
It went in.
So RPI came out with guns blazing in the second half and beat Bard going away, 3-1, in a Liberty League contest. It strengthened RPI's playoff position by moving the Engineers into third place - the top four teams make the tournament.
But their hearts must have been in their throats when Bard sophomore
Maddy Huggins fed freshman
Joanna Regan, who scored in the 25th minute to give Bard a 1-0 lead. RPI held an 11-2 advantage in shots at the time.
It remained 1-0 into halftime, but RPI tied it just 2:32 into the second half on a goal by junior Shannon Maguire (Randolph, NJ). A little over seven minutes later, junior Nikki Goodsell (Danbury, CT) made it 2-1, and 10 minutes after that one, freshman Sandy Kirk (Houston, TX) made it 3-1.
The Engineers, 4-2-1 in the Liberty League and 7-6-2 overall, finished with a 25-3 advantage in shots, and held Bard to just the one shot on goal that went in.
Jenn Osher made seven saves before being replaced by
Lena James in the 71st minute, and James made one save for the Raptors, who are 0-7 in the Liberty League, 3-12 overall.
Bard will next play on Wednesday, hosting Utica College in a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
