Women's soccer team blanked at Clarkson

Kim Larie was one of three Bard players to have a shot on goal on Saturday.
POTSDAM, N.Y. - A lot of rain and a little bad luck did in the Bard College women's soccer team on Saturday.

A rainy, cold game at Clarkson University that was scoreless for 77 minutes became untied when a bounding, wet ball was mishandled by freshman goalie Simone Leitner, leading to a goal by freshman Jessica Budaj (Windsor, MA).

The ball slipped out of Leitner's grasp and was kicked right to Budaj, who put the eventual game-winner behind Leitner.

About four minutes later, a Budaj shot from close range was stopped, but another freshman, Taryn Dausman (Syracuse, NY) quickly punched the rebound home, and Clarkson won, 2-0.

The Golden Knights, 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League, had a 7-5 advantage in shots at halftime, but dominated in the rain of the second half, outshooting Bard, 8-0.

The Raptors, 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League, managed just three shots on goal. Leitner made five saves.

Next up for Bard is Union College on Saturday at home at 2.
