ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Bard College sophomore
Amelia Bronder-Giroux (Malden, MA) volleyed home a cross from freshman
Erica Newton (Berkeley, CA) in the first minute of the second half to break a 1-1 tie and give the Raptors a 2-1 win over Skyline Conference foe Sage on Saturday.
Bard, 2-1 in the Skyline Conference and 3-4 overall, got on the board first in the eighth minute when freshman
Brianna Bean (Kaneohe, HI) scored her first collegiate goal on assists from Newton and fellow freshman
Maddy Huggins (Mukilteo, WA). Bean chipped an angled shot over the head of Sage keeper Brittany McDonald.
Sage, 0-3 in the Skyline Conference and 2-5 overall, responded five minutes later with a goal from Nicole Killeen, and it stayed that way until Bronder-Giroux's heroics at the start of the second half. It was Bronder-Giroux's first goal of the season.
Bard will host Vassar in a non-conference game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
