RECAP: Baseball Wins Non-Conference Clash With Williams

Story Links

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team prevailed against the Williams Ephs, 14-13 on Wednesday afternoon at Honey Field. It was the second win over Williams and the first since 2022.

Angus Lunt-Woodward went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk at the plate and pitched for the first time in his college career, recording a three-out save. Jamie Fryer moved to tied for second on the Bard leader board for most home runs in a season, with his fourth homer. His five career home runs ranks tied for third in program history. Lachlan Rudd and Jack Rivlin each had a hit and an RBI. Xavier Webb and Charlie Beauregard had an RBI. Andrew Plenn had two RBIs and two runs after reaching base twice.

Graham Williams started on the mound, going two scoreless innings with a career-high three strikeouts. Aidan Kiefer followed, with a strikeout in 1.0 inning pitched. William Oakley pitched the fourth, with one run allowed. Dylan Conte entered in a rainy fifth inning, and Orlando Shin recorded a strikeout in an inning pitched. Henry Hubner had the longest leash, going three innings and tallying three strikeouts.

Vassar comes into town on Friday at 4 p.m. for Kid's Day and the Raptors second conference match up.

Bard 14, Williams 13

In the top of the first, the Ephs left the bases loaded without scoring. The Raptors scored six in the bottom of the inning. The first was walked in, and the second was on a fielder's choice. With one out, Plenn drove in two more on a single pulled through the infield. Shortly after, Rudd was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for another run. Webb reached on a fielder's choice and was credited with an RBI, as Rudd beat out the throw to second. Bard added on in the second, with Grosfoguel starting it off with a rocket off the left field wall for an RBI double. He later scored on a wild pitch.

Williams got a run back in the third, but Bard tacked on six more. It started with Beauregard scoring on an errant throw after a dropped third strike and Rivlin's RBI single. Rivlin made it all the way around with another defensive mistake. Fryer had his fourth big fly of the season with a two-run homer to left field. Beauregard batted again later in the inning, notching an RBI single. In the top of the fourth, the Ephs scored two, but a great defensive play by O'Connor prevented a third run from scoring on a hit into right field.

The Ephs found their way back into the game with a seven-run fifth inning and an additional run in the sixth, all while shutting down the Raptors' hitters. In the ninth, Williams threatened to complete a miraculous comeback, but Bard escaped with a one-run win.
