ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – In a thrilling Liberty League contest on Kids' Day at Honey Field, the Bard College baseball team staged a dramatic late comeback to defeat Vassar, 9–8, on Friday afternoon. The Raptors erased a three-run deficit in the eighth inning, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the frame to secure the hard-fought victory in front of a lively crowd.

Jack Rivlin led the team with two hits, while Jack Leandri led the team with two RBIs. Angus Lunt-Woodward drew two walks and had a hit, while Jamie Fryer, Xavier Webb, Andrew Plenn and Johnny O'Connor each had a hit.

Charles Lehr started on the mound, throwing 5.0 innings and had three strikeouts. Jackson Sprinzen came in as a reliever with three strikeouts and threw 2.2 innings. Graham Williams closed out the game as he threw 1.1 innings and had one strikeout.

Bard jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Lachlan Rudd worked his way into scoring position before Angus Lunt-Woodward drove him home with an RBI groundout to give the Raptors a 1–0 advantage.

Vassar responded in the third inning, stringing together a pair of hits to plate two runs and take the lead. The Brewers added another in the fourth to extend their edge to 3–1. Bard answered in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on disciplined at-bats and pressure on the bases. Rivlin, who singled in his at-bat, scored on a wild pitch before Fryer lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Rudd. The Raptors tied the score at 3–3, keeping the game tight.

The Brewers regained the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI hit, to go up 4–3, but Bard continued to grind through each at-bat.

In the seventh, the Raptors reclaimed the lead thanks to timely hitting. Leandri hit an infield single and a throwing error by Vassar allowed Bard to tie the game. Leandri would then score on a wild pitch to regain the lead, 5-4. With momentum swinging toward the Raptors, the game appeared to be in Bard's control heading into the late innings.

Vassar had one more push left in the top of the eighth. The Brewers erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth inning, using a mix of hits and situational execution to suddenly jump ahead 8–5 and put Bard in a difficult spot.

In the bottom of the eighth, Webb started the rally with an RBI single to left field to cut the deficit to two. Plenn followed with a clutch RBI double that brought Bard within a run and energized the dugout. After Bard tied the game on a Leandri RBI groundout, Rivlin delivered the decisive moment of the afternoon, ripping a triple to right field that drove in the go-ahead run and gave the Raptors a 9–8 lead.

Williams came in on the top of the eighth, and he locked down the Brewers the top of the ninth inning. The Raptors held off Vassar's final attempt at a comeback, sealing the one-run victory and completing one of their most resilient performances of the season.

Bard will close the series against Vassar tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
