RECAP: Baseball drops opening game at Skidmore

The Bard College baseball team dropped a Liberty League matchup on a rainy Friday afternoon.

Xavier Webb, Jack Leandri and Jack Rivlin each had two hits, with Rivlin adding three RBIs, including a 2-RBI double. Angus Lunt-Woodward, Elias Grosfoguel and Andrew Plenn all had a hit, with Lunt-Woodward adding an RBI single.

Skidmore took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Bard answered back in the top of the third. A walk by Lachlan Rudd and  back-to-back singles from Webb and Leandri loaded the bases. Rivlin hit a 2-RBI single to left center, to score two runs and put the Raptors on the board.

The Thoroughbreds struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning to increase their lead. An RBI single by Lunt-Woodward to shortstop brought home a run for Bard in the top of the fifth. In the top of the seventh, the Raptors came out strong, with a single by Leandri to shortstop, followed by an RBI double by Rivlin to reduce the deficit to eight runs. With bases loaded, as Jeremy Hall pinch hit for Grosfoguel and drew a walk, Rivlin managed to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-12.

Kane Morgan started on the mound for the Raptors and struck out four batters in 3.2 innings of work. Jackson Sprinzen faced one batter and got the putout. Henry Hubner came in as relief and struck out two batters in 2.1 innings, while Orlando Shin came in and faced two batters.

Bard will host Skidmore tomorrow for a doubleheader. First pitch at 12 p.m.
