ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College men's and women's tennis programs concluded Liberty League play in a match against St. Lawrence on Sunday afternoon and celebrated their three seniors.
On the men's side, Bard battled hard against a consistent St. Lawrence team.
Thanasis Kostikas won four games at no. 1 singles, breaking his opponent's serves in the two games won in each set.
Yashar Khan won a game at no. 6 singles, with a lot of his games going to sudden death deuces. In doubles, the no. 1 pair of Kostikas and
Kai O'Donnell and the no. 2 pair of
Sam Marcus and
Joas Erasmus each won a game in their match.
On the women's side, no.1 doubles pair
Hanna Okalava and
Maya Kelly won the opening game in their match but could not stop a hard-hitting Saints team. Okalava had a chance to win the first set at no.1 singles but fell 6-4. She dropped the second set 6-1 as she battled through an injury.
Maya Kelly fought hard at no.2 singles, winning three games. At no.3 singles,
Paige Houghton won two games against a counter-puncher opponent.
Before the game, the Raptors celebrated their three seniors:
Sam Marcus,
Lola Mainieri and
Lapis Dove.
Bard will be on the road for their last two games, taking on Ramapo next Friday at 5 p.m. and then taking on Western Connecticut on Sunday at 1 p.m.
