Raptors sweep doubleheader against Union

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – Bard took a pair of Liberty League games from Union on Saturday, winning both games of the doubleheader by scores of 6-4 and 10-4 at Honey Field.

Aidan Risse threw a complete game in the first, and it was Jake Stacey's 4-for-5, 6 RBI performance drove the Raptors to their second win of the day.

Through nine games in conference play, Bard sits in third in the Liberty League East, one game behind RPI and ahead of both Vassar and Union.

The Dutchmen jumped on top early in game one, scoring twice in the first and adding a pair of unearned runs in the second inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Raptors remained a run behind until the 6th, when RBIs from Mike Kurlan, Stacey, and Jack Williamson gave Bard a 6-4 lead.

Risse, who had shut down the Dutchmen since the first inning, closed out the complete game in the 7th, striking out the last two hitters to give Bard the win. He finished with six strikeouts as he earned his third win of the season, all in conference games, with an ERA of 1.80 in those matchups.

Game two had less drama, as the Raptors jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the second inning, extending the lead to 8-1 in the 5th. Union added a pair of runs in the 7th inning but couldn't get any closer and Bard finished with a 10-4 victory.

Stacey was the dominant force in the game, with two-run singles in both the 1st and 2nd innings, another RBI single in the 4th, and an RBI triple in the 6th. Williamson went 2-for-3 with two walks and four runs scored, and Nick Hubbe went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Bryant Elliot pitched six and two-thirds for the win, allowing three runs and striking out four, and Kane Morgan pitched the last two and one-third innings to seal the victory.

The Raptors will host Merchant Marine on Wednesday, then Clarkson and St. Lawrence come to town on the weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against Liberty League West teams.
