ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College women's soccer team had five 2023 Division III Academic All-District honorees, an award that recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
Senior
Aidan Athanasio is majoring in historical studies and film production. Athanasio started in all 15 games for the Raptors this season. As a key defender for the Raptors, she helped the team to three shutouts and held opponents to one goal or fewer in seven games. Athanasio even added an assist this season. Athanasio is also a three-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree.
Junior
Waleska Brito is majoring in architecture. Brito started in 14 of the 15 games the Raptors had this season as a central midfielder, helping to orchestrate the team's attack. She totaled four goals and an assist with one game-winning goal. Brito is a two-time Libert League All-Academic honoree.
Sophomore
Carina Cooke is majoring in architecture and psychology. Cooke was named to 2023 All-Liberty League Honorable Mention and was an important defender for the Raptors and also contributed significantly on the offensive side of the ball. Cooke helped the team to three shutouts and held opponents to one goal or fewer in seven games. She led the team with four goals and eight assists. Her assists ranked second in the conference and 16 points ranked third. Cooke was also named to the Liberty League Honor Roll three times during the season. She is also a Liberty-League All-Academic honoree.
Senior
Emma Kuntz is majoring in biology. Kuntz was also named to the 2023 All-Liberty League Honorable Mention. As a starting midfielder for the Raptors, Kuntz was important to all aspects of the team's play, helping on offense, defense, and in transition. In addition to a goal and two assists, she helped the Raptors earn their first point in league play since 2017 with a tie against Vassar. She was an essential part of three shutouts for the Raptors, also helping to hold opponents to one goal or less in seven games. Kuntz is also a three-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree.
Junior
Seymone Rosenberg is majoring in historical studies. Rosenberg started in all 15 games in goal for the Raptors. She totaled a 4-10-1 record and made 103 total saves. Rosenberg had three shutouts, including the Raptor's first point in the league since 2017 with a tie against Vassar. She held opponents to one goal or less in seven games. Rosenberg is also a two-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree.
To be recognized on the Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and enrolled full-time with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50. The student-athletes must have also competed in 90 percent of the institutions's games or must start in at least 66 percent of games.
The Academic All-District Team is selected by the College Sports Communicators.
All six Raptors are now among those eligible for consideration for the Academic All-America Team that will be announced Dec. 20.
