ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team split a Liberty League doubleheader with Skidmore College on Saturday, winning Game 1, 9-8, in 13 innings, and losing Game 2, 7-1, in seven innings.
Bard was down, 8-4, going into the bottom of the ninth of Game 1, but the Raptors scored four runs with two outs to send the game to extra innings. A fielding error made it 8-5, a two-run single by
Robert Arciola made it 8-7, and a bases-loaded walk to
Adrian O'Toole tied it. In the bottom of the 13th with the bases loaded and one out, Arciola laced a line drive over the right fielder's head, and Bard celebrated a 9-8 victory.
Murphy Foss got the win with 4.1 innings of one-run relief with seven strikeouts.
Arciola and
Jared Toby had four hits apiece.
"It was a good team win coming back to win Game 1," Bard coach
Andy Salvatore said. "
Aidan Risse battled and gave us good length, and Foss was great and settled down in relief."
Michael Kurlan had two hits in Game 2, which Skidmore won, 7-1.
The third game of the series will take place on Sunday at noon in Saratoga Springs.
