SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team defeated Skidmore College, 7-5, in a Liberty League game on Sunday afternoon.
Down 3-2 in the top of the seventh,
Justin Fiume's two-run homer gave the Raptors a lead they would not relinquish, and Bard took the key East Division series from the Thoroughbreds, two games to one.
"
Andrew Cuschieri was great for us today in the first start of his career," said Bard coach
Andy Salvatore. Cuschieri gave up three runs over six innings and got the win. "Really big hits from Fiume and O'Toole."
After Fiume's homer, first year
Adrian O'Toole lined a two-out, two-strike, two-run single to right to give Bard a 6-3 lead. Skidmore got two in the bottom of the inning to cut the deficit to 6-5, but the Bard bullpen did the job.
Spencer Checkoway pitched the final 2.1 innings, yielding just one hit, to pick up the save.Â
Jack Williamson had two hits and
Jared Toby went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Bard next plays at Union on Tuesday to complete that three-game series. Bard won the first two games.
