ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team shut out Union College, 7-0, in a seven-inning Liberty League game on Wednesday.
Bard senior
Spencer Checkoway tossed a two-hit complete game, throwing just 75 pitches. He struck out three, walked one and enjoyed a three-pitch inning in the bottom of the fifth.
It was Bard first conference shutout since a 2-0 win over Vassar in May of 2018.
"Checkoway was excellent and gave us the start we needed," Bard coach
Andy Salvatore said.
The Raptors got all the runs they would need in the top of the second, when they scored three runs with two outs on a two-run double by
Robert Arciola, and an RBI double by Michael Hannan. Bard put up four more in the top of the seventh, this rally keyed by a triple from Arciola. He finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
"Arciola had a big day with two huge knocks," Salvatore said. "We're looking forward to getting after it at practice tomorrow."
Bard next plays an important Liberty League East Division series with Skidmore this weekend. The Raptors will host a doubleheader on Saturday, then travel to Saratoga for a single game on Sunday.
