ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team shut out Mount St. Mary College, 7-0, in a non-league game on Sunday afternoon.
Senior
Andrew Roberge, making his first start of the season at first base, staked Bard to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a grand slam home run - the first by a Bard player at Honey Field.
Spencer Checkoway then took over, striking out 10 over seven shutout innings as Bard improved to 3-2.
Roberge homered in his last at-bat of 2021 and his first at-bat of 2022.
"
Andrew Roberge earned a start, he got the opportunity, and he took advantage of it," Bard coach
Andy Salvatore said. "Spencer was good. He got ahead of hitters and the limited jams he got into, he worked out of."
Alex Luscher went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, and
Jared Toby drove in a pair of runs as Bard won two of three in its first home weekend.
"When our conference games come up, those are three-game series," Salvatore said. "Winning at least two out of three is what you strive for."
Liberty League games won't begin until later this month. Up next for Bard is a doubleheader at home against Cobleskill on Saturday.
