ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team dropped a pair of Liberty League games to Skidmore College on Sunday, falling 11-3 and 7-2.
Skidmore jumped out to a big lead early in Game 1 and never looked back.
Spencer Checkoway,
Alex Luscher and
Frank Rybicki each drove in a run for the Raptors.
A run-scoring double by Bard sophomore
Jared Toby gave Bard a 1-0 lead after one inning in Game 2, but Skidmore pushed four unearned runs across - two in the second and two in fifth, to take a 4-1 lead. The Raptors cut the deficit to 4-2 with an unearned run in the eighth, but that was as close as they would get.
Junior
Evan Matthews gave Bard a great start in Game 2, pitching five innings without yielding an earned run. Toby doubled again to finish with three doubles on the day. Checkoway and
Michael Hannan each had a pair of hits in Game 2. Checkoway was 7-for-14 at the plate in the four-game series.
"Credit to Skidmore for playing well," Bard coach
Andy Salvatore said. "
Evan Matthews, coming off injury gave us a very good start."
The Raptors will wrap up the regular season with a four-game series against Union next weekend.
"We just have to play our brand of baseball, and we need to play with confidence," Salvatore said. "We need to take good at-bats and keep putting the ball in play."
Bard will host the first two games of the Union series on Saturday. Follow along via Live Stats or Live Video.
