Late Skidmore rally beats Bard, 76-71

SARATOGA, N.Y. - The Skidmore College men's basketball team rallied from an 11-point second half deficit to take down Bard College, 76-71, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.

The result lifted Skidmore's playoff position, as the Thoroughbreds have now won two in a row after enduring a five-game losing streak, which included a five-point loss at Bard last month.

Bard, again playing without leading scorer Justyn Rogers, was solid from the start and led by as much as seven in the first half on the strength of shooting 54 percent from the floor. But the hosts outscored Bard 16-9 over the last five minutes, so it was tied 37-37 at the break.

The Raptors came out flying in the second half, starting it with and 18-7 run, making it 55-44 with just over five minutes gone.

Another run from Skidmore, this time 17-8, trimmed Bard's lead to 63-61 with 5:47 to go, but the Raptors pushed the lead back to five with 3:26 left. From there, Skidmore closed out the game with a 13-3 push, seven of those points coming from Lithuanian preseason All-American Edvinus Rupkus.

Rupkus finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Freshman Noah Meren (Providence, RI) added 14 points and six rebounds. Skidmore is 11-8 overall, 7-6 in the Liberty League.

Bard (6-14, 4-9) got a career high 17 points from senior Jelani Bell-Isaac, and he added five rebounds and three assists. Emmanuel Oyakhilome scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and David Runcie finished with 16 points, three rebounds, two blocks and four steals. Wynn Miller scored nine points off the bench, and Josh Etukudo had four points, five rebounds and three blocks in 17 minutes.

The Raptors are next on the road at Union on Tuesday night. Follow it live right here.
