SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team lost at Union College, 80-68, in a Liberty League game on Tuesday night.
The Dutchmen improved to 13-7 overall, and 9-5 in the Liberty League. Bard fell to 6-15, 4-10.
The first half was close. Bard led by five at one point, but Union held Bard to one point over the last 2:49 and led, 36-30 at halftime.
A 14-6 run in the first five minutes of the second half pushed Union's lead to 14, but the Raptors responded. A 12-6 run, culminating with a driving layup by
Emmanuel Oyakhilome, cut Bard's deficit to 61-53. But on Union's ensuing possession, senior Kevin Weckworth (Randleman, NC) hit a long three-pointer to push the bulge back to 11, and Bard didn't get closer than nine the rest of the way. The Raptors pressed and pushed the pace, but Union made 13-of-16 free throws in the second half to hold them at bay.
Weckworth finished with 30 points and five assists. Greg King (Ridgefield, NJ) added 16 points and six rebounds.
Bard freshman
Justyn Rogers, returning from injury. led the Raptors with 18 points and nine rebounds. Classmate
Alijah Rue also scored 18 points and added five rebounds and a pair of assists.
David Runcie also finished in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds.
