Raptors edged by Western Connecticut State

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. - The Bard College women's tennis team lost a close match Wednesday night, falling to Western Connecticut State, 5-4.

The Raptors opened the contest with a doubles win from Kristi Kordas and Amelia Tiemann by the score of 8-6. 

Kordas then secured a win in the No.6 singles spot in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-2, while Bard's No.3, MacKenzie Wardell also won her match in straight sets with 6-4 and 6-1 scores. 

No. 1 Katie Esposito had perhaps the best night of her young Bard tennis career, as the freshman rallied from a first set defeat to take the final two sets, 6-4 and 6-1 to win her match. 

Elizabeth Nicholson battled in a close contest in the No.5 spot, as the freshman won the opening the set 7-5, before dropping the final two sets, 2-6 and 5-7.

With the loss, Bard's record now stands at 2-7 on the year, while Western Connecticut State improved to 6-6 overall. 

Up next for the Raptors is their final match of the fall season, as the team hosts Purchase College this Saturday at 1 p.m.
