ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball season ended with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Rochester Institute of Technology, 7-3 and 12-8, on Sunday.
RIT ends the season at 18-21 overall and 12-12 in the Liberty League; Bard finishes 10-30, 5-19.
The Raptors kept Game One close with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, and it was 4-3 heading into the seventh in a seven-inning game. But the Tigers put up three in the top of the seventh and closed Bard out, 7-3.
Brandon Cohall (Cortlandt Manor, NY) threw a complete game for RIT, striking out nine. Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY) went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Evan Richardson gave up four runs over five innings and was tagged with the loss.
Dylan Long,
Mike Pizzuto and
Jeff Goldrosen had two hits apiece, while
David Schlosser,
Alec Montecalvo and Pizzuto drove in one run apiece.
Bard was chasing Game Two throughout, but hanging in there, and it was 3-3 going into the seventh. A two-out error and two walks loaded the bases for RIT in the top of the seventh, and consecutive wild pitches plated two runs. A run-scoring single made it 6-3, but Bard struck back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by
Jack Hawke.
RIT scored five runs - three unearned - on six hits in the top of the eighth to make it 11-5, and the Tigers went on to win the game, 12-7. Hogan went 1-for-4 with three RBI.
JP Fisher struck out six over 6.2 innings and gave up three earned runs in taking the loss. Hawke and Schlosser had two hits and two RBI apiece;
Dylan Long went 3-for-5 and scored twice. In the four-game set, Long went 9-for-14 with three RBI and two runs scored.
