ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Not that anyone was counting, but by the time Wednesday night's game with CCNY finally started, it had been 410 minutes and 24 seconds since the Bard College men's soccer team had scored.
A 0-0 double overtime tie with New Paltz; a 2-0 loss to Union; a 1-0 double overtime loss to 11th-ranked St. Lawrence; and a 2-0 loss to Clarkson.
Four games worth of frustration came pouring out, and CCNY took the brunt of it, as Bard rolled to a 7-0 victory. The Raptors are 5-3-3 and still haven't lost a game outside of the Liberty League.
That said, they're taking a little break from the Liberty League at the moment. They play one more non-league game on Sunday at Staten Island, then prepare to host Hobart next Friday. In the meantime, they took full advantage of just about every scoring opportunity on Wednesday night.
Jasper Shorter ran in alone and buried a breakaway after a great headed pass from
Austin Higgins to make it 1-0 in the 12th minute, and about three minutes later,
Jake Cicero found
Nick Shenberger with a long ball to the doorstep, and Shenberger put it in for a 2-0 lead. It remained that way at halftime.
Shenberger scored two more goals just over two minutes apart early in the second half and the rout was on. An own goal made it 5-0 in the 53rd minute,
Chris Hulbert scored off a nice feed from
Lucas Bourgine in the 68th minute, and freshman
Eli McClatchy buried a shot into the upper right corner in the waning minutes to complete the scoring.
Taylor Bond made four saves for Bard.
CCNY is 5-7-1.
