ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's tennis team held off Sage College, 6-3, in a non-league match on Sunday.

The victory, in a match that was much closer than the final score indicates, was Bard's seventh of the season. It completed the fall portion of the 2016-17 schedule; the Raptors have five matches scheduled in the spring, and at 7-6, haven't won eight matches in a season since 2010.
You knew it was going to be a long afternoon when all three of the doubles matches went down to the wire. At No. 1,
Lily Schwartz and
Harriette Slagle defeated Sammantha Montague (Glenville, NY) and Abbey Clobridge (West Sandy Lake, NY) 9-8, taking the tiebreaker, 7-2.
At No. 2,
Amelia Tiemann and
MacKenzie Wardell prevailed over Melissa Estremera (Millbrook, NY) and Shanessa Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ), 9-8, winning that tiebreaker, 8-6.
And at No. 3,
Bella Martinez and
Isabelle Scarborough held off Emily Schultz (Wynantskill, NY) and Shanice Mendoza (North Plainfield, NJ), 8-6.
Things were equally as tight in a few of the singles matches. Schwartz lost in three sets at No. 1; Tiemann lost a super tiebreaker at No. 2, and
Lily Zacharias won a super tiebreaker at No. 6.
Sage is 7-6.
The Raptors will be back on the court in the spring, hosting Union on Apr. 8.
