ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's tennis team opened the 2015-16 season with a 9-0 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a Liberty League match on Sunday morning.
RPI (1-0) swept all three doubles matches, yielding just three games in the process, and won all six singles matches in straight sets.
It was the debut for four newcomers to the Bard lineup; in addition to veterans
Harriette Slagle and
Isabelle Scarborough,
Lily Schwartz,
Amelia Tiemann,
Bella Martinez and
Lily Zacharias all played in their first college matches. Tiemann nearly took a set at No. 2 singles, falling to RPI freshman Nisha Rajamohan 6-3, 7-5.
Complete resultsThe Raptors will play a pair of matches next weekend. They'll be at Union on Saturday for another Liberty League match, then home against Sarah Lawrence on Sunday in a non-league contest.
