Bard College's women's basketball season is long over, but freshman
Tytravia Riley picked up yet another postseason honor on Friday when she was named to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) All-Met First Team.
She is the first Bard College basketball player - men's or women's - to be honored by this organization. She will attend the 80th Annual NIT/MBWA Awards Dinner, the oldest such awards program in the country, on April 15 with Bard Head Coach Sarah Lombard.
The event will include interviews with media members, and the annual presentations of the All-Met men's and women's teams in Div. I, II and III, as well as Players and Coaches of the Year in each division.
Riley burst onto the national Div. III scene by leading Bard, which had gone 1-24 in the 2011-12 season, to a school-record 5-0 start. She shattered the school record for rebounds in a game with 30 against Albany College of Pharmacy on Dec. 4, and by mid-December, she led all of Div. III in rebounds per game. She remained in first or second place in that category throughout the season.
Riley finished the season No. 2 in the country in rebounds per game and tied for sixth nationally in double-doubles with 20 in 25 games. She earned Co-Rookie of the Year honors in the Liberty League and led the Raptors to their first-ever Liberty League win over Clarkson University on Jan.11.
She finished the Liberty League season as the conference leader in rebounds per game and steals per game. Her overall statistics look like this: 16.6 points and 15.2 rebounds per game, 2.9 steals and 0.5 blocks per game, and 44.6% shooting from the field.
Riley is one of four starters who will return to the court for Bard in 2012-13.
