ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's basketball team stayed competitive against the Union Garnet Chargers on Saturday afternoon, but fell 69-48 on Senior Day at Stevenson Athletic Center.
Bard recognized its two seniors, Ahkhiyrah Perkins,
Aislynn Dixon and
Shirley Dong, prior to the game.
Dong had a game-high 16 points, including 14 in the first half. She added a team-high three assists, three steals, and four rebounds.
Jessica Martin also scored in double figures with 13, adding five rebounds and an assist.
Lexi Miller contributed six points, three rebounds, three steals, and an assist.
Dixon had five rebounds, tying Martin for the team-high, two points, an assist, a block, and a steal.
Ava Gregory tallied three rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
Erin Tobes finished with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Morgan Kottka chipped in three rebounds.
The Raptors surged out to an 8-4 lead behind threes from Martin and Dong. With 2:22 remaining, Dixon hit two free throws to make it 12-6. Union was able to make a late surge to get within one at 14-13.
Martin drilled a triple at the start of the second quarter, and Dong followed it up to make it 19-13, matching Bard's largest lead. Seven straight from the Garnet Chargers allowed them to take a lead at 20-19. The middle of the quarter featured three lead changes, and a Dong three tied it at 24-24. Over the final 4:02, Union gained a seven-point advantage with an 11-4 run, making it 35-28 at halftime.
Union doubled its lead to 14 after two and a half minutes of play in the third quarter. Tobes hit a corner three to break the run at the 6:02 mark. That sparked an 8-0 run that cut the lead to six at 42-36. However, Union went on a 10-2 run in response that gave the Garnet Chargers a 52-38 edge. Bard's bench outscored Union's 7-4 in the quarter, but Union had six more points off turnovers.
In the fourth quarter, the Raptors attacked the paint and won that category 8-4, but the jumpers weren't falling. After hitting two threes in each prior quarter, they were 0-of-5 in the final frame. Union, meanwhile, hit three of their own to cement the road win.
The Raptors will embark on their final road trip, starting on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at RIT.
