RECAP: Women’s Basketball Outscores RIT in the Second Half, Can’t Overcome Deficit

The Bard College women's basketball team was defeated by the RIT Tigers on Friday evening, 58-43.

Shirley Dong had a game-high 16 points and five steals along with three rebounds and an assist. Dong has now reached 7th all-time in career points. Ava Gregory contributed five points and four rebounds in a game-high 37 minutes. Jessica Martin posted five points and five rebounds.

Aislynn Dixon tallied four points, four rebounds, and two assists. Lexi MIller collected three rebounds, two blocks, a steal, and three points. Erin Tobes had ten points on 5-of-9 shooting, five rebounds, and two assists. Morgan Kottka chipped in a steal.

Dong had a three-pointer 1:20 into the game to put the Raptors ahead 3-2. The lead shifted hands two more times in the early going, as RIT took the lead at 4-3 before two Miller free throws went down. Then, the Tigers had a 12-4 run to go ahead by seven with 16 seconds remaining. Dong had a buzzer-beater to cut the lead back down to five heading into the second quarter.

Tobes carried that momentum into the second quarter, scoring on the Raptors' first possession to make it 13-16. However, RIT went on a 10-0 run to create some separation halfway through the second. Tobes stopped the drought with a layup, but the RIT lead went to 20 after a three in the final minute that made it 35-15.

The Raptors were the first on the board out of the half, as Gregory hit an open look. She added a fastbreak three to her tally about a minute later, cutting the lead to 17. Bard had an opportunity to chip away further, as its defense prevented RIT from scoring for over three minutes. Unfortunately, during this time period, the Tigers also locked down defensively.

Down 19 heading into the fourth, Bard just wanted to take some positive energy into tomorrow's game. The Raptors were able to do just that, trimming the lead down to 11 after a 12-2 run over a five-minute stretch. Dixon capped it off with a three at the 4:03 mark. For RIT, the bench was able to hold off the Raptors, outscoring the Bard reserves 12-2 in the period.

Overall, Bard had two blocks, while RIT had zero. It was the closest margin of victory for the Tigers over the Raptors since the 2015-2016 season.

The Raptors' final game is at William Smith tomorrow at 2 p.m.
