Women's lacrosse team downed; LaMont closes in on scoring record

Bard junior Stephanie LaMont scored five times, but the Raptors lost to Rochester, 15-7, on Saturday afternoon.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The University of Rochester scored the game's first five goals and cruised to a 15-7 victory over Bard in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets (2-5, 1-1 Liberty League) scored three times in the first 6:20 of the game and had a 5-0 lead with 17:44 to go in the first half. Bard coach Hannah Taylor used a time out, and Bard responded with two goals to cut it to 5-2, but that's as close as the Raptors would get the rest of the day.

Rochester got four goals and an assist from freshman Cassie Mahar (Charlestown, MA). Bard had an edge in ground balls (25-22) and draw controls (14-10), but Rochester freshman Marissa Traina (Hillsborough, NJ) made 10 saves to keep Bard in check.

Bard junior Stephanie LaMont, who set the school record for goals in a season with 29 in 2012, scored five goals, giving her 26 so far in 2013. Joanna Regan added one goal and three assists, and Mary-Elizabeth Clair scored a single goal for the Raptors (4-4, 0-2 Liberty League). Brianna Bean had two assists, and Maddy Huggins made 10 saves.
