Box Score CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team shut out Medaille College, 4-0, on Saturday night at the SUNY Cortland Tournament.
Bard has its first 3-0 start since the 2009 season.
Box score
Bard had an edge in the first part of the first half, as freshman
Sylvia Kool produced three shots in the first 10 minutes, and hit the crossbar in the 16th minute.
Alana Shaw came off the bench and produced three quick shots herself. The Raptors had the advantage in possession and shots, but the game remained scoreless deep into the first half.
That's when freshman
Isabel Keddy-Hector untied it with a booming free kick from 35 yards and found the upper left corner behind Medaille keeper Denay O'Connor (Rochester, NY) in the 43rd minute.
Bard outshot Medaille 11-3 in the first half.
In the second half, slowly but surely, Bard began to dominate with its depth.
Brianna Bean made it 2-0 in the 54th minute, with assists going to
Maddy Huggins and
Sylvia Estes. Keddy-Hector hit the crossbar about nine minutes later, and Bean scored her second goal of the game in the 88th minute. Freshman
Tracy Siris added her first collegiate goal in the 90th minute. Assists on those goals went to
Abbey Labrecque and
Abby de Uriarte, respectively. Bard outshot Medaille 13-4 in the second half.
Sophomore
Simone Leitner, making her first start of the season, made five saves to pick up the victory. Medaille is 1-3.
Bard has outscored its opponents 15-1 so far this fall, but the level of opposition will climb dramatically on Sunday, when the Raptors take on host Cortland State at 3:30 p.m. The Red Dragons were ranked No. 22 in the national preseason Div. III coaches poll, but fell out after a tie with New Jersey City in Week 1. Still, they were in the "also receiving votes" category this week. But that was before Saturday night's 0-0 tie with St. Lawrence University.
