Raptors' rally extinguished by Rochester

Bard senior Farah Akhtar had an assist in Bard's 14-7 loss to Rochester on Friday afternoon.
Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - By the time the Bard College women's lacrosse team figured out how to score against the University of Rochester, it was almost too late.

The Raptors were down, 7-0, and there were just five minutes and 37 seconds left in the first half. Rochester was dominating draw controls, ground balls, shots ... just about every category there is.

Bard responded. The Raptors scored twice before the break, then three more times in the first 10 minutes of the second half. It was 7-5, and it was now a game.

Rochester's freshman goalie, Maddie Elia (Thousand Oaks, CA) made a key save on a shot by Stephanie LaMont a few minutes later, and then the Yellowjackets scored three times in the next six minutes en route to a 14-7 Liberty League victory.

Rochester junior Liza Maizel (New Milford, CT) had three goals and three assists for the winners, who improved to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League. Elia finished with six saves.

Rochester finished with a 36-15 advantage in shots and went 13-for-17 on clear attempts. The Yellowjackets collected 20 ground balls to Bard's 17. Rochester plays at Vassar tomorrow afternoon at 2.

Bard freshman Joanna Regan had three goals and two assists, and sophomore Stephanie LaMont added two goals. Reed Mango and Brianna Bean contributed single goals, and Farah Akhtar had one assist as the Raptors fell to 5-4 overall, 0-3 in the Liberty League. Maddy Huggins was sharp and made 12 saves.

The Raptors host RIT on Saturday afternoon at 2 in another Liberty League contest.
