Bard romps in women's lacrosse opener, 16-4

Senior Farah Akhtar had two goals and an assist as Bard won its lacrosse opener, 16-4, on Wednesday night.
Box Score SOMERSET, N.J. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team scored twice in the first 59 seconds en route to a 16-4 romp over College of St. Elizabeth in the opening game for both teams on Wednesday night.

Freshman Joanna Regan, playing in her first collegiate lacrosse game, scored 19 seconds into the game on an assist from senior Farah Akhtar, and sophomore Stephanie LaMont scored again 40 seconds later to make it 2-0 in the first minute.

The Raptors led 9-2 at halftime and it was 14-2 with 10:35 left in the game.

Sophomore Brianna Bean finished with a game-high four goals; Regan had three goals and an assist; LaMont scored three times; Akhtar and freshman Reed Mango each scored twice; and Victoria Fleisher and Kim Larie each scored once.

Regan led Bard with five ground balls and Mango caused three turnovers. Sophomore Maddy Huggins, playing her first-ever game in goal, made four saves, as the Raptors (1-0) outshot the Screaming Eagles (0-1), 36-10.

Up next for Bard is its home opener against Regis College on Saturday at  1 p.m. That game is being played at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, N.Y.
