PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Bard College women's tennis team opened the 2011-12 season with a tight win over former Skyline Conference foe SUNY Purchase, 5-4, on Saturday.

The Raptors (1-0) won four of the six singles matches, then pulled out a tiebreaker at third doubles to win the match.

Sophomore Jean Wong defeated Moriah Ormsby at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0; Nelle Plotkin prevailed over Ashley Bernhardt at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-5; Madeline Turner topped Alyson Lopez at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0; and Lia Soorenian defeated Chelsea Quinn at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

Soorenian and Chloe Stergides edged the team of Lopez and Quinn, 8-7, to win at No. 3 doubles. SUNY Purchase is 1-1.

The Raptors next host Sage on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
