Yeshiva pulls away, tops Bard

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A close game turned into a blowout on Monday night as Bard finished the season with an 86-61 loss at Yeshiva University.

The Raptors (2-23 overall, 2-18 Skyline Conference) led by as much as seven in the first half, trailed by six at halftime, and were down just two with 17 minutes left in the game before Yeshiva took control.

The Maccabees (7-18, 7-13 Skyline) outscored Bard 50-31 in the second half - more specifically 39-20 over the last 14 minutes - to pick up their third win in four games.

There were plenty of free throws taken on Monday night - Yeshiva made 26-of-34 - and Bard made 21-of-27. But the Raptors shot 21 percent (7-of-32) from the field in the second half while Yeshiva was shooting 51 percent.

Yeshiva was led by sophomore Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Israel), who had 25 points. The Maccabees also got 13 points apiece from sophomore Schlomo Weissberg (Skokie, IL) and senior Simon Brookim (Brentwood, CA).

Bard got 21 points from junior Matt Shubert (West Chester, PA). Senior Christian Marghella (Closter, NJ), playing in his final game, had 10 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Junior Yonah Greenstein (Rego  Park, NY) scored eight points, and sophomore Frank Stortini (Red Hook, NY) added six points, five rebounds and four assists.
