FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Farmingdale State scored twice in the first 16 minutes and went on to beat Bard, 4-0, in a Skyline Conference game.
Farmingdale and Bard were picked 1-2 in the conference's preseason coaches poll.
The Rams got on the board in the fifth minute when Melissia Elie's nifty moves wrong-footed the Bard defense and enabled her to find just enough space to shoot and score from 12 yards out. Jamie Smith converted a penalty kick after a hand ball in the 15th minute, and Farmingdale scored twice more before halftime.
Bard keeper
Amy Strawbridge (Indianapolis, IN) made 10 saves in the match, while the Rams' keeper, Amanda Maas, needed only three saves for her shutout.
Bard next hosts Harwick College in a non-conference match up on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
