ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Freshman
Maddy Huggins' (Mukilteo, WA) first collegiate goal proved to be the game-winner as the Bard College women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season, 1-0, over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Higgins stripped the ball off an MCLA defender and went in alone on the Trailblazers keeper, Jen Wehner, who dashed out off her line but to no avail as Huggins calmly slotted the ball past her to the left corner of the net. The second half featured even play between the teams. MCLA increased the pressure on Bard by moving players forward, but the Raptors' back line of
Lydia Rebehn,
Perry Scheetz,
Kim Larie, and
Alice Weston held strong with great organization.
Freshman goalkeeper
Amy Strawbridge (Indianpolis, IN) notched her first collegiate shutout with five saves.
Bard, 1-2 overall, opens Skyline Conference play with a home game against Mount St. Vincent on Thursday at 7 p.m.
