Box Score It was a hard fought battle on the Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer Field last night as the Bard Women's Lacrosse team took the Gators of the Sage Colleges into overtime looking for their first varsity win for the young Women's Lacrosse program.
It would be a goal scored by Sage's Jessica Hankle with 38 seconds left in regulation that would send the game into overtime. It would also be a goal by Jessica Hankle with 29 seconds left in overtime that would ultimately win the game for the Gators and send Bard to its fifth loss of the season.
The Raptors would come out firing as they took an early 3-1 lead with two goals from midfielder
Kim Larie (So. - Londonderry, NH) and one by
Madison Fletcher (So. - Schenectady, NY). After Sage added a goal Bard would respond right back with a goal netted by
Adriana Johnson (So. - Brookline, MA) to give the Raptors a 4-2 lead. The next three goals of the half would be scored by Sage giving them a 5-4 lead heading into half time.
Bard would take control early in the second half as they netted the first three goals of the half scored by
Farah Akhtar (So. - Karachi, Pakistan),
Bridget Reddington (Fr. - Caldwell, NJ), and Alyssa De Conto (Sr. - Sandwich, MA). It was a surge that gave the Raptors a slim 7-5 advantage. The Raptors would keep their two goal lead as they scored two out of the next four goals, one by Reddington and one by Johnson. Sage would take the next three goals to put them up 10-9 with 1:39 left. The Raptors would answer right away as
Bridget Reddington would score two more goals, for her third and fourth of the day, to give Bard an 11-10 lead. It was a lead that would only last for 30 seconds as Jessica Hankle of Sage would score a goal with 38 seconds left in the game to tie the score and send it into overtime.
After the first three minutes of over time passed without a goal it was on to the next three minutes of overtime. Bard would have a chance to score on a free position shot by
Kim Larie but they were unable to score. That would be Bards closest chance to take the lead in overtime. With only 29 seconds left in the second overtime Jessica Hankle would take control of the ball and score the deciding goal to give Sage a 12-11 win.
Bard was led by
Bridget Reddington who finished the game with four goals on seven shots while picking up seven ground balls and winning four draw controls.
Kim Larie and Adrianna Johnson also added a pair of goals each for the Raptors.
The Raptors played an excellent game but just came up a little short in the end. Bard drops to 0-5 (0-5 Skyline) on the season as Sage picked up their first win of the season and move to 1-5 (1-1 Skyline).
The Women's Lacrosse team will take the field on Thursday, April 8 as they host Wells College in a non-conference match at the Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer Field. The Raptors will be looking for their first win of the season.
