NASHUA, N.H. - A 20-2 run which bridged the first and second half proved to be too much to overcome on Saturday as the Bard College men's basketball team lost to Daniel Webster College, 79-61, in the consolation game of the Rivier/Coca Cola Tip-Off Tournament.
Bard (0-3) led, 28-20, with 2:14 left in the first half, but four minutes into the second half, the Raptors trailed, 40-30. After Bard trimmed the lead to 42-37 with 13:25 left in the game, the Eagles went on an 11-2 run and never looked back.
Daniel Webster (2-1) got 20 points from senior guard Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) and 16 points and 11 rebounds from senior forward Eric Suarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Bard had four players scored in double figures. Senior
Christian Marghella (Closter, NJ) led the way with 14 points; junior
Matt Shubert (West Chester, PA) had 13; sophomore
Jeremy Arnstein (Washington, DC) added 12 and freshman
Lamar Powell (Brooklyn, NY) chipped in with 10. Sophomore
Frank Stortini (Red Hook, NY) led the team with 10 rebounds.
The Raptors will play their first home game on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against Yeshiva University. It will follow the Yeshiva-Bard women's game, which begins at 6 p.m.
