NASHUA, N.H. - The Bard College men's basketball team suffered through another tough shooting night in the first round of the Rivier College Tip-Off Tournament on Friday night.
The Raptors (0-2) shot 16 percent from the floor in the first half and 24 percent from the floor in the game en route to a 78-51 loss to host Rivier College.
Much like Bard's opener on Wednesday at Vassar, the Raptors started slow, then played the opponent even in the second half. Bard trailed, 48-21, at halftime Friday night and lost by the same deficit.
Eleven different players scored for Rivier (1-1), led by senior guard Nick Bean (E. Longmeadow, MA) who had 15 points and five assists. Six-foot-eight senior center Dan Poitras added 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.
For Bard, sophomore
Frank Stortini (Red Hook, NY) made 4-of-6 three-pointers and finished with 19 points, while junior
Matt Shubert (West Chester, PA) added 15 points and six rebounds. Junior
Yonah Greenstein (Rego Park, NY) and freshman Awet Woldesselassie (Asmara, Eritrea) contributed six points apiece.
Bard will play in the consolation game on Saturday at noon against the Daniel Webster College.
