Bard back in championship match

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's tennis team advanced to the Skyline Conference title match with a 5-0 victory over Purchase Wednesday night.

Bard led each of the four remaining matches, but in the playoffs, once a team has an insurmountable lead, the match ends.

Only two of the singles matches were completed. Junior Sofio Commito (Reading, MA) won at No. 1, and junior Madeline Turner (New York, NY) won at No. 5. Bard only needed to win two of the singles matches to clinch the victory because the Raptors swept all three doubles matches.

Commito teamed with sophomore Anna Gors (San Antonio, TX) to win at No. 1, freshmen Jean Wong (Singapore) and Julia DeFabo (Latrobe, PA) won at No. 2, while Turner and freshman Nelle Plotkin (Brooklyn, NY) won at No. 3.

Next up for Bard is top-seeded Mount Saint Mary. The Blue Knights topped Bard, 5-4, just a couple of weeks ago. These teams also met in last year's title match, with Mount Saint Mary prevailing. The title match will be held on Saturday at Mount Saint Mary at 1:30 p.m.
