The Bard College women's soccer team grabbed a victory on Thursday evening against the SUNY Poly Wildcats at WIldcat Field, 2-0.
To start the contest, Bard was able to get a shot up.
Carmen Merrick won possession in the right corner and
Georgia McCauley sent a shot that sailed high. 17:16 into the game, a Wildcat attempted to clear the ball, but
Kaia Brady read it, sending a shot from the 18. It went high, and the score was still even at 0-0. Under three minutes later,
Brooke Egrestis had a shot and missed to the left. The pressure finally culminated in a goal by
Mahlia Slaiby. She found the ball, turned, and dialed up a perfectly placed shot into the top left corner of the net. Bard dominated the shots category in the first half, 9-1, and the Raptors generated five corners to the Wildcats' zero. Starting goalkeeper
Thayden Hamilton-Howard played for the first half and did not face a shot on goal.
The Bard offense continued to roll in the second half, as
Melania Hracs timed her run well, drawing a foul on the SUNY Poly goalkeeper.
Natalie Wing took the penalty kick, scoring her first collegiate goal at the 49:09 mark. The Wildcats got a shot on goal in the 55th minute, but
Julianna LaFond was able to scoop up the save. Bard led the shots category 10-2 in the second half and continued to control possession throughout.
Camila Sandaal, Brady, and
Alexandria Loner all recorded 90 minutes. Slaiby and Egrestis finished with a game-high four shots.
Bard returns home to play St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
