RECAP: Baseball's early lead could not hold off Manhattanville

Hall, Lunt-Woodward, O’Connor with multiple hits

The Bard College baseball team dropped a non-conference match against Manhattanville on Tuesday afternoon, 15-7, at Valiants Field.

Jeremy Hall, Angus Lunt-Woodward, and Johnny O'Connor had two hits each, with Lunt-Woodward and Elias Grosfoguel each having two RBIs. Ryan Lora got his first start on the mound and had a career-high four strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work. Graham Benway came out of the bullpen and threw 3.0 innings and had three strikeouts. Four other Raptors came in to pitch.

Manhattanville scored first, going 3-0 after two innings. The Raptors broke through at the top of the third inning with a five-run rally to take control of the game. A single from Cal Anna and O'Connor and a walk drawn by Hall loaded the bases. Lunt-Woodward delivered with an RBI single to bring in the Raptors' first run. Grosfoguel followed with a two-run single through the left side to give Bard the lead, and two wild pitches later in the inning allowed the Raptors to extend the advantage to 5–2.

The Raptors added another run in the fourth when Lunt-Woodward doubled to right field to score O'Connor, pushing the lead to 6–2. Manhattanville responded in the bottom half of the inning with three runs to cut the deficit to one. Bard answered again in the sixth with an RBI single by Hall to drive O'Connor home, giving Bard a 7–5 lead midway through the game.

However, Manhattanville erupted in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring nine runs on five hits to swing the momentum of the game.

Bard will face RIT this weekend for a three-game series, with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 and a single game on Sunday at 12.
