The Bard College baseball team was within two runs for the majority of the day, but the RIT Tigers won Game 1 11-2 and Game 2 7-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Charles Lehr had a quality start for the Raptors in Game 1, going 6.0 innings with two earned runs. He struck out five batters out of 28 faced.
Henry Hubner followed, and
William Oakley finished the game with 1.1 innings pitched and two strikeouts.
Elias Grosfoguel had Bard's only hit: a homer in the fourth inning.
Lachlan Rudd reached base and scored due to timely baserunning.
In Game 2, the offense saw a boost, with eight hits from five Raptors.
Jack Burcell,
Cal Anna, and
Charlie Beauregard each had two hits.
Jeremy Hall had his first career home run, and Grosfoguel added a hit.
Kane Morgan went 6.0 innings with four strikeouts, and
Graham Williams followed with 2.0 innings and one strikeout.
Bard completes the series in Rochester tomorrow at noon.
Game 1: RIT 11, Bard 2
The Tigers scored a run in each of the first two innings off of Lehr, but the Bard starter was able to settle in for a scoreless third inning. To begin the fourth, Rudd was hit by a pitch, and
Jack Leandri laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him over to second. Rudd stole third and scored on an errant throw. Grosfoguel knotted the game up at 2-2 with a home run to left field.
RIT took the lead, 3-2 in the fourth, and the Raptors were set down in order in the next five innings. The Tigers put together an eight-run seventh inning to cement their win.
Game 2: RIT 7, Bard 4
In the first inning, RIT got on the board with a leadoff homer. Bard responded in the top of the second, with
Charlie Beauregard singling in Burcell from third to tie it. The Tigers scored two in the third and one in the fourth to make it 4-1. Hall came through with a two-run homer in the fifth, scoring Rudd, who walked on four pitches in the prior plate appearance.
RIT made it 5-3 with a second round-tripper in the sixth inning. Then, the Tigers did it again with an opposite field home run to begin the seventh inning. RIT scored its seventh run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Bard got one back in the ninth to make it 4-7, but the comeback ended there.
