ITHACA, N.Y. — The Bard College women's tennis team had a strong showing against tough league opponent Ithaca on Saturday, falling 1-6.
Jesse Radzik was leading 6-4 at No. 4 singles when her opponent retired from the match. It was Bard's first point against Ithaca since 2018.
The doubles teams also were competitive, as at one point, each team was within a game at 2-3. At No. 1 doubles, Paige Houghton and Catherine Chapel were even at 2-2 after each player served once, ultimately being bested 2-6. Radzik and Patricia Santos had a similar result, 2-6, at No. 2 doubles. The Raptors' No. 3 doubles team of Lola Greene and Lisa Kyrtoka nearly made a 2-5 comeback, reaching 4-5 before the Bombers served it out.
In singles action, Houghton was outlasted 0-6, 0-6 at the No. 1 spot. Chapel fought well at No. 2 singles, ending 1-6, 0-6. At No. 3 singles, Santos won two games in the first set.
At No. 5 singles, Sienna Roveda battled to win three games through a difficult match, defending against short drop shots and sharp angles. Kyrtoka was the final Bard player on court at No. 6 singles, falling in a close one, 4-6, 2-6.
The Raptors face off against the RIT Tigers tomorrow at 2 p.m.
