RECAP: Baseball falls in mid-week non-conference game at USMMA

The Bard College baseball team dropped a tough midweek matchup on the road, falling to USMMA, 14-1, on Wednesday evening in Kings Point, N.Y. 

The Raptors showed early patience at the plate in the first inning, loading the bases behind a walk and two hit-by-pitches, but were unable to capitalize and left three runners stranded.

Merchant Marine took control right away, plating a run in the first before breaking the game open with a seven-run second inning. The Mariners kept their momentum going and added more runs in the next three innings. 

Bard scattered four hits in the contest, with Xavier Webb leading the way with a double and the team's lone run, scoring on a wild pitch in the fifth inning. Elias Grosfoguel and Jack Burcell each added singles, while the Raptors also worked two walks and were hit by three pitches.

On the mound, Bard used five pitchers, with Tom Maxwell getting his first start this season. Maxwell and Graham Williams each got a strikeout, while Emmett O'Brien had two strikeouts. 

Bard will face Union this weekend for the conference series. The Raptors will face the Garnet Chargers on Friday at 3:30 p.m. to celebrate their two seniors, Kane Morgan and Graham Marshall, in Honey Field, before heading to Union on Saturday for a doubleheader, starting at noon.
